Chabad of Poway, JRP0047

Poway is still coming to terms. The shock and pain from the shooting at the Congregation Chabad of Poway has been overwhelming In this podcast I share my thoughts on the reactions of fellow Powegians. We also discuss ideas to move forward positively.

In Solidarity after Poway Shooting

We discuss the Poway community rallying in support and solidarity with the Chabad. There were various vigils hosted in Poway where people joined to cry together, pray together and support one another.  We discuss the leadership of Mayor Steve Vaus and the tone he struck with people in the community.  Then we talk at length about Poway Unified School District Superintendent Dr. Marian Kim-Phelps and her efforts to drive out hate.  We discuss the goodness of Lori Gilbert-Kaye, who lost her life that day.  Later we talk about Rabbi Goldstein and his trip to Washington DC for the National Day of Prayer.

Driving Out Hate

I took time to talk with friends and neighbors both in person and in social media.  The grief in the community was strong. However, people people were offering quality ideas to bring people together to drive out hate.  We talk also about addressing reality (This IS Poway) and expressing love. This leads us to a discussing cultures, religions and traditions.

I spoke at length about the topic of Identity Politics, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., the Declaration of Independence, Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness.  Then we get into Free Speech, Hate Speech and difficult conversations.

I invite my fellow community members to join me for a podcast conversation about the Poway shooting.  I would enjoy learning your thoughts. Let’s hope our neighbors can learn and grow as we work our way through these difficult issues.
