Opening Day, Fashion Fascism, Auto Nation, Capitalism

March 27, 2025

OPENING DAY. This should be a national holiday. Opening Day represents new opportunity, sunshine, time to play, time to win, time to perform, time to enjoy, time to be an American. More of this please.

PROFAR LOVE. Very classy the way Padre fans gave Jurickson Profar a standing ovation as he came to the plate to lead off for the Braves. Profar had a great year last after so many lower-than-expectations seasons. There is a real love that is shared between Padre Fans and Jurickson. I love to see it. I will always love him jumping up and down in Dodger Stadium after he robbed a home run in the playoffs. Vibes Above Replacement (VAR)

FASHION FASCISM. Have you seen the video clip of DHS Secretary Kristi Noem at the El Salvador Prison? Really creepy. Trump’s team is ramping up the deportations. I get that. But how are illegal immigrants being assigned to an El Salvador Prison without due process? Everyone’s heard the comparisons of Trump and Hitler. This El Salvador Prison situation is next level. It’s like America is outsourcing concentration camps to Central American nations!

MARCH MADNESS THINKING.

College Football Coach = Military Commander
College Basketball Coach = Artist
College Baseball Coach = General Contractor

AUTO NATION. Do you care which state your car is built in? If not, then why do you care which nation your car is built? This idea of supporting tariffs on imports to protect American manufacturers is nonsense economics. Yet MAGA supporters feel it is their patriotic duty to sacrifice for the common good. LOL. MAGAs are like left-wing progressives in that way.

CAPITALISM GETS A BAD RAP. We have a serious housing crisis and a resulting homeless crisis in California. Some will blame capitalism. Little do people realize that it is the anti-capitalist forces that created this mess. NIMBYs and their local politicians actively prevent capitalists from developing housing. They want to stop new neighborhood development to protect the environment. They want to prevent higher density housing in their local neighborhood. These people never took Econ 101. This limitation on housing supply distorts the market. When there is high demand and low supply, prices will go up to the point that housing is not only hard to find, but completely unaffordable when you find it. It’s no wonder people are living on the streets or in their cars.

TRUMP AIN’T NO CAPITALIST. It’s fashionable to condemn capitalism, especially now with Trump back in the White House. Don’t be fooled. Trump is no capitalist. He supports strict government controls on trade and labor. He reneges on business agreements. Capitalism is defined by free trade and private property. Trump rejects free trade.
